This species is well adapted to its wetland habitats; it is able to swim well and even dives to avoid predators (and entomologists). Associated with mosses.

A common species across most counties in Britain.
Damp areas in woodland heath and other habitats where mosses are abundant.
Often found in the same habitats as the Slender Groundhopper.
